ABOUT
The BioBead
BioBead is a smart bracelet designed to help identify abnormal menstrual pain and support early screening for endometriosis. By passively monitoring body temperature and heart-rate patterns, BioBead learns each user’s recurring pain cycles over time—without requiring apps, logging, or internet access. When unusually severe, repeated pain patterns are detected, BioBead connects users with nearby general practitioners for early medical evaluation. Discreet, accessible, and affordable, BioBead turns overlooked pain into actionable care.

The message
For too long, the pain that so many girls and women endure each month has been hidden, dismissed, or normalised. It is whispered away as “just a period,” a private struggle that must be borne in silence. Yet behind that quiet suffering lies a truth too often overlooked: pain is a signal, a call for care, and a story that deserves to be heard. BioBead exists to give that story a voice. By transforming invisible pain into measurable patterns and connecting it to real medical support, we ensure that no one has to navigate their suffering alone. Our mission is to illuminate what has been ignored, to bridge the gap between pain and care, and to affirm that every girl and woman deserves to be seen, understood, and treated with dignity. Because menstrual pain is real, and care should always follow.
WHY
Endometriosis is a chronic condition that affects an estimated 1 in 10 women and girls of reproductive age worldwide, impacting nearly 90 million people globally.
Despite its prevalence, diagnosis is often delayed by 7 to 10 years, as severe menstrual pain is frequently dismissed as normal and difficult to measure. The condition can cause intense pelvic pain, chronic fatigue, and fertility complications, with 25–50% of women experiencing infertility estimated to have endometriosis.
In many African regions, these challenges are worsened by limited access to specialists, low awareness, and strong social stigma surrounding menstrual health.
BioBead exists to address this gap by turning overlooked, subjective pain into objective health data and creating a direct pathway to early medical evaluation, helping girls and women receive care before years of suffering pass unnoticed
